BASSETT LOWKE BOATS

This is a clockwork model of The Bassett Lowke Margaret Rose, believed so named in 1930 following the birth of Princess Margaret in 1930 .This model with working clockwork was found on ebay in 2008 in good restored condition

This is an electric model of Iolanthe 2 also found on eBay. This boat is believed to have been produced from 1938 when found on eBay it was missing a cabin which has been recreated (Not entirely accurately) in mahogany The original electric motor is working and can be powered by 2 bicycle lamp batteries. The boat has been restored by me.

Both of the above boats are 28/29 inches and pictured on Page 161 the Bassett Lowke Story By Roland Fuller

This is a working clockwork model No 88 restored by me which is believed to date from the 1920s and comes with original tatty box length 22 inches

In 1957 Bassett lowke produced The Glen Eagle a model of the 1948 full size cabin cruiser for Tec ltd. This one was again found on ebay in wrecked condition but with its original box! It is 39 inches in length and probably does not qualify as a toy boat!

A picture can be found on Page 184 the Bassett Lowke Story By Roland Fuller. I have an early 1960’s catalogue which shows the Glen eagle as a plan from BL to build. The method of construction of the hull of this Glen Eagle i.e. hollowed out and smooth inside to a fairly thin hull thickness, professionally done makes me think the hull at least came from BL.

Port Brisbane

I believe this is either a Bassett Lowke vessel built or ship built from a BL plan. It is 36 inches in length and appears in the same catalogue as the Glen Eagle as a plan. This model has a metal hull and superstructure and is steam( not working as it lacks a burner and the boiler is untested) powered
